We arrive in Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen, before transferring to our hotel. Overnight stay at BaseCamp Spitsbergen in the small Arctic town of Longyearbyen, where lunches and dinners are on your own.
Svalbard - Autumn Magic
No other expedition in the world is dedicated to spending as much time amidst ice floes and glaciers in one of the last largely unspoiled Arctic wildernesses on earth - Svalbard.
We have chosen fall for this expedition. This time of the year offers superb light conditions for landscape and night photography. At sunrise and sunset the glaciers and icebergs are basked in a golden glow and then at dusk they turn soft pink against a blue sky. From mid-September on we move into total darkness during the night and hence will be able to experience and photograph the mysterious Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights if weather permits.
After spending one night in Longyearbyen's famous and cozy Basecamp Spitsbergen, we will board the M/S Freya in the afternoon of the next day. This comfortable small ship will be our home for the next 10 nights. The captain and crew are highly experienced and have traveled these arctic waters for many years.
Because we specialize in exclusive small group travel (14 passengers maximum on the M/S Freya), we have freedom and extra flexibility on our Svalbard expedition that may not be enjoyed with larger groups. We can linger as long as we like at wildlife sightings. We have time to capture the perfect light while enjoying or photographing the majestic landscapes. We will look for calving glaciers and stunning icy landscapes during our expedition.
Svalbard is Wild Focus Expeditions’ flagship tour and usually fills far in advance. Please don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime-experience; Svalbard should be on every adventurer’s and nature lover’s bucket list.
