India - Tigers & Colors April 02-15, 2023

One can learn more about life in one day in India than in a decade in a Western world country

India causes a stimulation of our senses and is a country of stark contrasts: a plethora of vibrant colors, sweet smells of curry and coriander, deafening noise in the cities, silence and peace in the forest reserves, huge concentration of people during festivals or the empty deserts of Rajasthan. When traveling in India you will never experience a dull moment. India is one of the most fascinating, colorful, exciting and wildlife-rich countries in the world.

During the 2 week long trip, Wild Focus will get you eye-to-eye with Bengal tigers in the wild and will lead you through narrow streets framed with blue-painted walls. You will find yourself walking on marble hallways inside the most beautiful tomb in the world, and on dusty streets through colorful spice markets. Every day will present you with an unforgettable Indian experience.

Our first stop will take your breath away, when you enter through a massive sandstone gate and are suddenly standing in front of one of the greatest architectural wonders of this world - the Taj Mahal. There are no words to describe the beauty and elegance of this building, the millions of intricate mosaics with a perfect fit, the delicate carvings, the perfect symmetry of the arches and the manpower, time and money involved in the construction of this mausoleum -  a Mughal emperor's statement of love for his wife.

During the following 5 days we will explore one of India's greatest national parks in search of the most powerful cat on earth - the tiger. Ranthambhore, an old Maharaja's hunting reserve is a mix of historical buildings, lakes, mountains and forests inhabited not only by tigers but also by several deer species, leopard, sloth bear, monkeys, crocodiles and about 270 bird species. It is a nature lover's and photographer's paradise. The highest mountain is occupied by the Ranthambhore Fort, a massive structure that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After having experienced Rajasthan's wild nature we will continue to explore India's culture during a visit of Rajasthan's most beautiful city - Udaipur. The city is known for its history, culture, scenic locations and the Rajput-era palaces. It is popularly known as the "City of Lakes" because of its sophisticated lake system. Besides the lakes, Udaipur is also popular for its massive historic forts and palaces, museums, galleries, natural locations and gardens, architectural temples, as well as traditional fairs and festivals.

On the last stop on our India journey we will visit the photogenic historical Blue City of Jodhpur in the shadow of the majestic Mehrangarh Fort. Our local guide will enable us with private access to rooftops with fantastic panoramic views over the Blue City and the fort. The evenings and nights will be enjoyed in quiet and peace in a quaint Heritage Hotel. To experience the charm and colors of Jodhpur is a perfect way to end our tour through wild and culture-rich Rajasthan.

If you are interested in learning new photography techniques, Theo and Jami will share some of their secrets learned from years of photographic experience. They will help you capture beautiful images of tigers during your time in Ranthambhore. Then they will share some fun techniques while traveling in Rajasthan. This is not only an exciting and exotic adventure, but an ideal trip for capturing breathtaking wildlife and cultural imagery.

For most activities, an easy level of exertion is required. Participants should be in good general health, able to walk one to two miles over uneven terrain in Rajasthani cities.

Indian cuisine is just one of the special experiences that our travelers will enjoy. Some Indian dishes can be rather spicy, but this can be avoided if mentioned in advance. Our travelers do not have to worry about stomach illness on our trips because we are staying in lovely hotels where food is washed and prepared in the highest of standards.

Summer in Rajasthan starts in April when we are there and temperatures can reach as high as 36ºC (96ºF) during the middle of the day. We will avoid the hot time of day when we are on game drives as the tigers are usually sleeping somewhere in the shade. Despite occasional delays that can occur and sometimes bumpy driving conditions, our expeditions to India receive rave reviews from our travelers. The only requirement is a sense of humor, flexibility and an adventurous spirit.
